Olga Aksyonova

Olga Aksyonova lives and works in Moscow. Her artistic practice is dedicated to exploring the notions of fragility and vulnerability through the lens of various cultural traditions. As an artist, she searches for the origins of collective consciousness and studies its transformation and adaptation to contemporary circumstances.

Her creative process revolves around identifying transitional states reflected in her artwork. She draws upon archaic forms of communality, aiming to establish a flexible and adaptive model of community capable of transforming along with the surrounding world. Through exploration of cultural differences, Olga expands her own perception of reality, opening up possibilities for synthesis of contrasting viewpoints and finding common ground when confronting disparate cultural paradigms.

Olga’s practice combines classical icon-painting techniques with modern forms of visualization. The artifacts she creates bear traces of a transcultural approach, reflecting common elements characteristic of many cultures. Crucial importance is given to the use of color as an expressive tool, imbuing objects with symbolic meaning and constructing narrative through symbols, characters, and storylines.
