Sergey Poteryaev is a multidisciplinary artist and curator who lives and works in Yekaterinburg and Dresden. The artist explores the boundaries of visual images and documentality in art. His method of work is based around the idea of variability and understatement of photographs, revealing the problems of manipulation and interpretation. He often combines elements of journalistic and artistic storytelling, presenting a series of sequenced images, including archival footage, reports and productions. In his works, the artist remains a detached observer, maintaining the image of an impartial documentary narrator. He is interested in the landscape as a socio-cultural space. The focus of his research is visual propaganda and the phenomenon of migration.
